Leaving a Legacy

Posted on:

Since day one of founding Market Aces out of my basement (after I dropped out of college), I have had the dream of re-inspiring the way we think about technology. I wanted to run a technology company from a marketing, design-driven perspective. While I did not know we would be as successful as we are today, I knew in my heart that great design is what makes great technology and that there was business to be made with that thought in mind.

I have lived and breathed a marketing strategy I call “Core Concept Marketing Strategy,” which drills down into “why” any given company’s product is special and inspiring, not just “what” it does or “how” it does it (“what” and “how” are boring and uninspiring).

I look back on the past several years and see the amazing clients we’ve revolutionized and the millions of people we’ve reached with our materials. And I think, wow, that’s pretty damn cool.

What I see is that my vision has grown beyond my reach and so has my company. That’s good, that’s what I wanted.

And, today, I make a major announcement that will surely grow my vision further.

I am proud to announce Jacqueline Silseth as the new CEO of Market Aces.

Jackie has been instrumental in all the late nights, marketing strategy sessions, project management, and all the other craziness it takes to run a creative technology & marketing firm. I could not ask for a better person to not just take my place, but also take the company to new heights.

Watch out, Jackie is going to really take Market Aces to the next level.

You may be asking, but Jared, what will you do? Valid question.

My answer: I’m crazy. I can’t stop with just one business and I’m moving on to start other ventures.

While I will still maintain my Chairman of the Board position and my role as a chief visionary, I am moving into product focused technology ventures. I’m keeping a tight-lid on what some of those ventures are, but as soon as I am ready, you can be certain I will update everyone.

This does not mark the end of my involvement with Market Aces but, rather, starts the beginning of me leaving a legacy. I built the company I one day dreamed of owning and now I pass on the torch and leave a legacy to a leader who will only grow and expand that vision.

As one of my early mentors once told me, “there is a direct correlation between hard work and success.” What I have found is that statement is pretty true and, in that case, I bestow the role of CEO in more than capable hands.

Congratulations Jackie, I cannot wait to see you grow Market Aces from here.

Coherent design branding often needs to be applied across many form factors and products. Creating a distinctive design that works everywhere can be a challenge however, at Market Aces we don’t break a sweat. Here’s some concept work branding from Aalok that shows what we can do for anyone’s design branding needs.

Moral Paper Route takes 1st Prize

Posted on:

The Moral Paper Route has taken first prize in the American Enterprise Institute’s “Morality of Free Enterprise” video contest.

First, I would like to thank the American Enterprise Institute for all the great work they do for free enterprise. Without them, this contest wouldn’t have happened and none of these videos would have been made.

I chose to enter AEI’s contest to challenge myself to see if I could not only produce a great video, but also one that matters. The video needed to get to the heart of the vital role free enterprise has played in our past, but more importantly, its role in our future. I’m proud to say the video does just that.

Producing the video was a great experience. The process from conception to shooting took less than 14 days, and the leg work of editing was completed over the next month. I would like to thank Scott Q. Nguyen for the great work he put into the production.

What I have learned from this project I can now happily bring to Market Aces. This has laid the groundwork for Market Aces to further expand into video production. Market Aces is now truly a one stop shop for everything from graphic design, software, web development, and now video production.

Please allow me to share the video with you again.

Facebook Cover Photos Done Right

Posted on:

Change. Everything changes.

Yet, when Facebook changes, there’s an unusual amount of analysis of their direction and effectiveness.

Specifically, I’m talking Timeline here. But not Timeline for everyone, Timeline for business.

The article I link to above criticizes Timeline and the lack of effectiveness cover photos have on the intended audience. While good criticism is not lost on me, I disagree with the premise.

Cover photos are not inherently ineffective, there are simply ineffective implementations of the cover photo on Timeline.

We decided to take Timeline, and make our cover photos an integral part of it. Every time we launch a new website, we update our cover photo.

Like our concept? Then like us on facebook by clicking here.

Doing so keeps our timeline up-to-date, gives people a reason to come back, and in one single view you can see the kind of work we do plus check our quality in a glance.

Additionally, our unique cover photos give our facebook fans a unique interaction with us. These graphics are obviously made just for our Facebook.

In short, the cover photo is effective. It just depends on how you utilize it.

Yesterday, we just launched the Sowards for Senate website. And, the market aces’ facebook fan page got a fresh cover photo as a result.
